Flight Instruments

The limited instrument panel in a balloon contains:

An "Altimeter" which measures barometric pressure to determine the altitude of the balloon.

A "Rate of Climb" or "Variometer" which measures changes in pressure to determine your speed up or down in feet per minute.

An "Envelope Temperature Gauge" which gives the pilot the temperature of the fabric at the very top (or hottest part) of the system.

A "Fuel pressure gauge" which helps the pilot determine Burner efficiency.
